‘2020MAMA’ Overview

‘2020 MAMA’ ended on the 6th. BTS was accounted for eight awards , including four grand prizes, and Mamamoo, Seventeen, IU and Blackpink won three awards.
Technically, it showed stability. Due to the COVID-19, it proceeded non-face-to-face, and there were no controversy about camera recording skills and sound problems that were pointed out as a chronic problem before. For the first time in Korea, the artist’s high-definition slow-motion video content Stanbot, AR, VR, XR, etc were applied to the show.
However, in the second and third parts, only the scale increased, but MAMA was not able to differentiate itself from general music broadcasting programs. ‘2020 MAMA’ was opened by singer Taemin. Taemin, who appeared in oriental costumes, showed fantastic performances with ‘Criminal’ and ‘Idea’.
Host actor Joong-ki Song introduced the concept of ‘New Topia’ and said, “When I usually say hello on live broadcasts, I am close enough to hear the fans’ voices, but today it is new and unfamiliar. I miss the nights full of fans’ shouts.”
In the first part, Jessi and Hwasa reinterpreted Rain’s ‘Gang’ as a girl crush, ENHYPEN, a group launched by Big Hit Entertainment and Mnet’s joint project ‘I-LAND’, and Monsta X and Cravity, who are in the same agency, exploded powerful synergy. Oh My Girl and (G)I-dle, who sang ‘Bad Girl Good Girl’ of Miss A together, made the show special.
The Boyz, the winner of Mnet’s ‘Road to Kingdom’, completed an ambitious stage with ATEEZ and Stray Kids, heralding ‘Kingdom’ to be aired in 2021. Group Treasure and Weeekly won the Best New Male and Female Artist Awards for New Artists.
Mamamoo won three awards, including the Best Vocal Performance Group Award.
IU received the award in the Best Female Artist, Best Solo Vocal Performance, Best collaboration (with. Sugar) sector.
The second part was opened by JO1, a group born from the Japanese version of ‘Produce’. JO1 also won the Best New Asian Artist Award.
Tomorrow by Together, which raised the excitement of the disco with ‘Short Hair’, ‘She Was Pretty’ and Dynamite’ stages. IZ*One, which first unveiled the new song ‘Panorama’. Mamamoo and Seventeen also enriched the awards ceremony by showing unique and energetic stages.
Groups NCT, Treasure, Tomorrow by Together, GOT7, ATEEZ, Seventeen, Mamamoo, Twice, BTS, and Blackpink received the WorldWice Fan’s Choice Award, and the winners expressed their gratitude to the fans.
Monsta X won the Best Stage Award.
Part 3 started with the sweet vocals of NCT U, and the performance of complete NCT 23 members overwhelmed the stage. Twice showed a picturesque stage that seemed to have collected all of the MAMA stage technologies. The highlight of the 3rd part was BoA’s special stage in her 20th year of debut. Younger singers showed BoA’s hit song Medley, and the protagonist BoA, as the queen of K-pop, presented a classy stage through ‘Number One’, ‘Only One’ and the new song ‘Better’. BoA won the Inspired Achievement Award.
BTS reaffirmed the grand record written in the popular music industry in 2020 by sweeping 8 awards, including 4 grand prizes. Starting with the Best Dance Performance Men’s Group Award, they received the grand prizes of Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Worldwide Icon of the Year. BTS also received the ‘Artist of the Year’ award and ‘2020MAMA’ was finished.
