Yuqi of (G)I-DLE Makes Solo Debut with ‘YUQ1’ After Six Years

Yuqi, a member of the popular K-pop group (G)I-DLE, steps into the spotlight as a solo artist with her first mini-album ‘YUQ1’, officially debuting six years after her group debut. Released by Cube Entertainment, the album showcases three major highlights that emphasize Yuqi’s unique presence as a solo performer.

The first point of interest in ‘YUQ1’ is the album itself, which captures the essence of Yuqi, notably changing the alphabet ‘I’ in her name to the numeral ‘1’ to symbolize her first solo endeavor and visualizing her confidence. Yuqi has participated in composing and writing lyrics for five of the seven tracks, including the title song ‘FREAK’. Her prior experience as a songwriter and composer for (G)I-DLE’s hits like ‘i’M THE TREND’ and ‘All Night’ has well-prepared her for this solo project, raising expectations for her self-produced work.

The album reveals Yuqi’s vocal versatility across a spectrum of seven colors, showcasing her ability to handle a variety of genres, from the charming Bossa rhythms of ‘FREAK’ to other dynamic styles. Each track highlights her strong vocal presence and artistic identity, affirming her position as both a vocalist and a solo artist.

Lastly, ‘YUQ1’ features an impressive lineup of guest artists, enhancing its diversity and appeal. Tracks like ‘Drink It Up (Feat. pH-1)’ and ‘On Clap (Feat. Lexie Liu)’ benefit from the contributions of renowned musicians pH-1 and Lexie Liu, respectively, while fellow (G)I-DLE member Minnie joins Yuqi in ‘Everytime’. This collaboration across artists adds a rich layer to the album’s overall texture.

‘YUQ1’ is available on various online music platforms starting from 6 PM on the 23rd, with the physical album set to be released the following day.
