BTS V’s Layover Tops iTunes Album Charts in 109 Countries, Setting a New Record

BTS member V’s solo album Layover has achieved a remarkable milestone by topping the iTunes Top Albums chart in 109 countries, marking its widespread global popularity. Released on September 9, the album celebrated its first anniversary by reclaiming the top spot in several major markets, including France, the UK, Germany, Australia, and Japan. V’s success with Layover solidifies his status as one of only five Asian solo artists to achieve this feat, underlining both his artistic depth and commercial appeal.

Layover debuted at number one on the Worldwide iTunes Albums chart and made history in the U.S., where V became the first Asian solo artist to have every track on the album sell over 100,000 units. The album also led V to become the only K-pop soloist to debut in the top three of Billboard’s album sales chart and remain there for three consecutive weeks. Moreover, V became the first K-pop soloist to have every track on Layover chart on both the Billboard Global 200 and the Global 200 (excluding the U.S.) charts.

Beyond sales success, Layover was ranked in the top 10 of the IFPI Global Album Sales Chart for 2023, despite being released only four months prior. It also set records as the best-selling Korean album by a K-pop solo artist on Japan’s Oricon charts. The album’s continued relevance is evident, with its tracks still charting on Apple Music in 30 countries a year after release, and its LP edition selling out multiple times during pre-orders.
