Rookie group ILLIT is set to captivate audiences at the prestigious Japan Record Awards with their hit debut track Magnetic, showcasing their meteoric rise as a “super rookie.”

Performance at the 66th Japan Record Awards

According to their agency, Belif Lab, ILLIT (Yoona, Minju, Moka, Wonhee, Iroha) will perform at the 66th Japan Record Awards on December 30, broadcast live at 5:30 PM JST on TBS. The group will deliver a captivating performance of their debut single Magnetic, a song that has dominated Japanese music charts throughout the year.

Magnetic made waves in Japan, ranking 5th on YouTube Japan’s annual Shorts Popular Songs list and earning a spot on the LINE Music Trend Awards 2024. Remarkably, it was the only K-pop song to make these rankings. Additionally, it secured the 15th position on Billboard Japan’s Hot 100 year-end chart, the highest rank achieved by a K-pop song this year. Fans are eagerly anticipating ILLIT’s signature quirky and vibrant performance style, which promises to leave a strong impression on the Japanese audience.

Historic Newcomer Award Win

ILLIT was previously announced as the winner of the New Artist Award at the Japan Record Awards, making them the first K-pop girl group to earn this honor in 13 years. Even more notably, this milestone comes before their official debut in Japan, marking ILLIT as the first-ever artist to achieve such a feat.

The Japan Record Awards, established in 1959 by the Japan Composer’s Association, is Japan’s most prestigious and longest-running music awards ceremony, broadcast annually on December 30 via TBS.

Dominating Japan’s Year-End Shows

Beyond their performance at the Japan Record Awards, ILLIT continues to shine across Japan’s major year-end music shows. They have already appeared on Fuji TV’s 2024 FNS Music Festival and TBS’s CDTV Live! Live! Christmas Special. Upcoming appearances include TV Asahi’s Music Station on December 27, culminating in a performance at NHK’s iconic Kōhaku Uta Gassen on December 31.

With their unique charm and undeniable talent, ILLIT is solidifying their status as a global rookie sensation while making an indelible mark on the Japanese music scene.
