Rising K-pop group RIIZE will release a remake of TVXQ’s debut hit Hug on January 8, marking a fresh take on the classic as part of SM Entertainment’s 30th-anniversary celebrations.
SM’s Anniversary Tribute
SM Entertainment, celebrating three decades in the industry, has launched a series of commemorative projects, including concerts, orchestral performances, and a special anniversary album. This album will feature remakes of SM’s iconic hits, reinterpreted by both senior and junior artists, offering fans a nostalgic yet modern journey through the label’s musical legacy.
The pre-release of RIIZE’s version of Hug is set to serve as a “New Year’s gift” for global fans, dropping across major music platforms such as Melon, Spotify, Apple Music, and QQ Music. The full commemorative album will follow later this year.
RIIZE’s New Spin on a Classic
RIIZE’s rendition of Hug, originally released in 2004 as TVXQ’s debut track, has been reimagined by producer Park Moon-chi. The remake infuses the timeless song with Y2K-inspired aesthetics and trendy sounds, creating a distinct “newtro” vibe. The track opens with RIIZE’s smooth a cappella harmonies, followed by refreshing vocals that add a contemporary twist to the sentimental classic.
