Baekhyun, IU, Rose, Daniel Kang… ‘Glowing Solo Artists’ Relay

Solo singers are continuing their brilliant performance in the record market. While BTS, Seventeen, NCT, and other large boy groups that ranked at the top of the album charts last year, making their way to the top of the album charts, are taking their breath without releasing a new album, solo singers are hitting the market.
Gaon Chart Senior Research Fellow Kim Jin-woo said on the 6th, “Amid the situation where it is difficult for singers to hold concerts due to the prolonged COVID19, the phenomenon that the ‘revenge consumption’ from K-pop fandom continues to concentrate on album purchases this year after last year. Under the same atmosphere, the solo singers who have built up a solid fan base are continuing their cruise with large album sales since their comeback.”
Among the solo singers who recently released a new album, Baekhyun (EXO) is the protagonist who made a remarkable achievement. Baekhyun, who released his third solo mini album “Bambi,” on the 30th of last month, sold 760,154 copies (hereinafter, based on Hanteo Chart) only during one day, breaking the record for the number one solo singer’s first-ever initial sales. The previous record was 70,4572 copies, recorded by Baekhyun with his second mini-album “Delight,” which he released in May last year. The initial sales volume refers to the sales volume for a week after the release of the album. Baekhyun proved his hot popularity by breaking this record with a new album.
IU made her comeback after releasing her 5th full album ‘LILAC’ on the 25th last month wrote a new sales record. IU’s agency EDAM Entertainment said, “This album captured the fans’ attention because it’s her full album in four years,” said “and that helps the large album sales.”
Blackpink Rosé’s ‘R’, which was released on the 16th of last month, recorded 440,089 copies of initial sales, which is the highest record among female solo singers. Rosé, who became the first “Million Seller,” showed off her strong sound source power as a solo singer as well.
Daniel Kang, from the project group Wanna One, has surpassed 1 million in cumulative sales with three albums released after his solo debut.
