BLACKPINK Adds Another 700M-View MV, Reigns as YouTube’s Most Subscribed Artist

BLACKPINK (Jennie, Rosé, Jisoo, Lisa) continues to solidify their global dominance on YouTube, as their “Shut Down” music video surpasses 700 million views.

On January 29, YG Entertainment announced that the “Shut Down” MV officially crossed the 700 million view milestone at 2:24 PM KST. This marks BLACKPINK’s 15th music video to achieve this feat, further proving their unmatched presence on the platform.

Originally released on September 16, 2022, “Shut Down” became an instant sensation, with its high-budget production, grand-scale sets, and references to BLACKPINK’s past hits. Within 18 hours, it amassed 44 million views, topping YouTube’s “Most Viewed Video in 24 Hours” ranking.

Musically, “Shut Down” is a hip-hop track infused with classical influences, sampling Niccolò Paganini’s La Campanella. The combination of the sharp violin melody, heavy beats, and BLACKPINK’s powerful vocals and rap verses made it a standout hit.

The song also dominated global charts, reaching No. 1 on iTunes in 43 countries and topping the iTunes Worldwide chart immediately upon release. It also made history as the first K-pop song to hit No. 1 on Spotify’s Weekly Chart.

BLACKPINK continues to hold the title of “YouTube Queens”, boasting the largest subscriber count of any artist worldwide. Their official YouTube channel now has over 95.7 million subscribers, with total video views nearing 37.9 billion, further cementing their status as one of the most influential music acts of the generation.
