BTS’s Jungkook Tops ‘Billboard K-Pop Artist 100’ List, Followed by Stray Kids and NewJeans Among Others

BTS’s Jungkook has secured the top spot in the “Billboard K-Pop Artist 100” rankings.

On the 27th (local time), the U.S. Billboard headquarters announced the first “Billboard K-Pop Artist 100” list in celebration of the May launch of “Billboard Korea” and its inaugural issue in June.

The “Billboard K-Pop Artist 100” list, a collaboration between the U.S. Billboard headquarters and “Billboard Korea,” was unveiled for the first time this year. Billboard plans to annually select and announce 100 K-pop artists who have shone in the Billboard main charts, in partnership with “Billboard Korea.”

The rankings of the 100 artists were determined by combining their performances on the Billboard main album chart “Billboard 200,” the main singles chart “Hot 100,” and the “Boxscore Top Tour Chart” from last year (January 7, 2023, to December 30, 2023).

A total of 16 teams were selected for the “Billboard K-Pop Artist 100,” starting with BTS’s Jungkook in the first place. The list includes BTS, Stray Kids, FIFTY FIFTY, NewJeans, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, Seventeen, ATEEZ, ENHYPEN, TWICE, BLACKPINK, LE SSERAFIM, aespa, NCT 127, NCT DREAM, (G)I-DLE, and ITZY.

The “Billboard K-Pop Artist 100” not only introduced each of the 100 artists but also explained the reasons for their selection, with a special focus on Jungkook, who ranked first. Billboard commented, “Jungkook seems to have truly embraced the nickname ‘Golden Star’ of BTS. His solo debut single ‘Seven (feat. Latto)’ not only debuted at number 1 on the ‘Billboard Hot 100’ but also remained at the top of the ‘Billboard Global 200’ for seven weeks, was named ‘Global Song of the Summer’ number 1, and was selected as ‘Top Global K-pop’ at the ‘Billboard Music Awards’.”

Furthermore, Jungkook’s solo song ‘Standing Next to You’ stayed on the ‘Billboard Hot 100’ for 16 consecutive weeks, marking the longest charting among his solo releases, and this achievement, along with his Billboard Boxscore tour records, contributed to his top ranking in the “Billboard K-Pop Artist 100.”

Last month, Billboard announced the official launch of “Billboard Korea” in Korea, starting with the publication of the June inaugural issue “BillboardK Vol.1.” Ahead of the magazine’s release, “Billboard Korea” will begin a major launch promotion starting with the opening of its official website and digital platforms in April and May.

Additionally, the “Billboard Korea” launch event in May will be attended by key executives, including Billboard headquarters’ representative Mike Van, and artists selected for the “Billboard K-Pop Artist 100” as well as other prominent figures in the entertainment industry are expected to be invited.
