Jin’s Q&A on His First Solo Album, Happy

Q: How do you feel about releasing your first solo album?
It’s truly meaningful to release an album under my name, and I hope fans will love it. I want everyone who listens to this album to feel happy. Since this album reflects a lot of my personal preferences, I’ll be thrilled if people say, “This is so good” or “I want to listen to it again.” (Laughs)

Q: What should listeners pay attention to in Happy?
This album is centered around band sounds, which are particularly exciting in live performances. I recommend imagining how these songs would feel in a concert setting while you listen.

Q: How did you feel when you first heard the title track “Running Wild”?
It evoked a nostalgic feeling, reminding me of good times from the past. I hope listeners find it equally comforting and familiar, which is why I chose it as the title track.

Q: Any behind-the-scenes stories about working with Gary Barlow from Take That?
During recording, I had to focus a lot on pronunciation. The differences between American and British English tripped me up a bit, so I had to record several takes to get it right. My pronunciation could use some work, though! (Laughs)

Q: What challenges did you face with the rockabilly track “I’ll Be There”?
It was tailored for me from the start, so it wasn’t too difficult. However, I struggled a bit with the upbeat “One, two, three, four!” part, which took several tries to perfect.

Q: Tell us about writing the fan song “Longing.”
While training as a recruit, I jotted down emotions like, “Fans are waiting, I need to sing, I need to perform.” Revisiting those feelings, I poured my yearning to reunite with fans into the lyrics. I hope my emotions resonate with them.

Q: What makes you happy these days?
Seeing fans enjoy and find happiness in my activities brings me so much joy. It’s moments like these that make me think, “This is why I do what I do.”

Q: Any final message for ARMY?
Thank you to ARMY for patiently waiting for this album. Happy exists because of your support. I’ll be showing my face as much as I can, even for the other members—so no getting bored! I love you!
