Rookie sensation ILLIT has broken yet another record.
On December 27, their agency, Belif Lab, announced that ILLIT’s (Yoona, Minju, Moka, Wonhee, Iroha) debut track “Magnetic” from their mini-album SUPER REAL ME surpassed 500 million streams on Spotify as of December 25. Remarkably, it reached this milestone just 275 days after its release on March 25, setting the record for the fastest K-pop group debut song to achieve this feat on the platform.
Global Breakthrough
“Magnetic” first garnered attention by becoming the first K-pop debut song to chart on both the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and the U.K. Official Singles Chart Top 100. It has since consistently ranked on various global charts, solidifying ILLIT’s reputation as a “super rookie.”
In 2024, the song ranked 61st on Billboard’s annual Global 200 chart and 29th on the Global (Excluding U.S.) chart, both the highest for any K-pop group song that year. Additionally, it claimed 25th place on Apple Music’s Top Songs of 2024: Global.
Success in Japan and Beyond
Despite not yet having made their official debut in Japan, “Magnetic” has gained massive traction in the country. It ranked 15th on Billboard Japan’s Hot 100, the highest position for a foreign artist’s song. The track also entered YouTube Japan’s annual “Top Shorts Songs” ranking, the only K-pop song to do so. On TikTok’s Year on TikTok Japan list, it ranked third, further cementing its cross-platform popularity. It was also the sole K-pop entry in LINE Music’s Trend Awards 2024.
Year-End Highlights
Buoyed by “Magnetic”‘s global success, ILLIT is dominating year-end stages and award shows worldwide. They are set to appear on TV Asahi’s Music Station on December 27, NTV’s Most Listened Songs of the Year: Annual Music Awards 2024 on December 28, TBS’s Japan Record Awards on December 30, NHK’s Kōhaku Uta Gassen on December 31, and the 39th Golden Disc Awards on January 4, 2025.
