NewJeans’ ‘ETA’ Climbs Global Charts Again, Reigniting Popularity

NewJeans’ hit song “ETA” is experiencing a resurgence in popularity, rising once again on major charts in the U.S., U.K., and other key music markets. According to Spotify, on October 5, “ETA,” one of the triple title tracks from their second EP Get Up, ranked 41st on the U.S. ‘Daily Viral Songs’ chart, having re-entered the chart at 79th on October 3. The song then climbed 23 spots to 56th the following day and another 15 places to reach 41st on October 5.

In the U.K., “ETA” re-entered the chart at 65th on October 4 and jumped to 51st on October 5. The track also charted in Canada (33rd), New Zealand (34th), Denmark (45th), Australia (53rd), Iceland (56th), Norway (80th), and Ireland (94th), making it onto Spotify’s ‘Daily Viral Songs’ chart in nine countries. Its continuous rise in rankings is noteworthy, signaling more than just a temporary resurgence.

Spotify’s ‘Daily Viral Songs’ chart tracks songs that see a rapid increase in streams and shares, making it a key indicator of trending music. Since September 30, “ETA” has experienced a sharp spike in streaming numbers. While it had daily streams of 300,000 to 350,000 in September, this number surged to 420,000 on September 30, and continued climbing to 560,000 on October 1, 660,000 on October 2, 730,000 on October 3, and 840,000 on October 4.

This dramatic rise in streams for “ETA,” released over a year ago, is unusual, especially as most songs typically see a decline over time. Even considering NewJeans’ consistent popularity, this surge stands out. The song’s resurgence has been fueled by its widespread use on social media platforms. A famous streamer played “ETA” during a live broadcast, sparking renewed interest. Clips of the song have been circulating on TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), and a new wave of dance challenges around “ETA” has emerged, further boosting its popularity. As a result, “ETA” even topped the K-pop genre chart on Apple Music in the U.S.

With this momentum, many are watching to see if “ETA,” which initially made waves upon its release in July 2023 by entering the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, will once again achieve global success.

Meanwhile, NewJeans will receive the Frontier Award at the 11th Edaily Culture Awards on October 25, held at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts. This award recognizes artists or groups that have made pioneering contributions to the performing arts.
