NewJeans’ ‘Supernatural’ and ‘How Sweet’ Achieve Dual Success on Billboard Charts

NewJeans (민지, 하니, 다니엘, 해린, 혜인) has made waves on the Billboard global charts with their latest releases, demonstrating strong dual popularity.

According to the latest Billboard charts (dated July 13), NewJeans’ Japanese debut single “Supernatural” has secured the 22nd spot on the ‘Global Excl. U.S.’ chart and the 34th spot on the ‘Global 200’. The accompanying track “Right Now” also ranked at 120th on the ‘Global Excl. U.S.’ chart.

Their double single “How Sweet” continues its impressive performance on the global charts for the sixth consecutive week. The title track “How Sweet” holds positions at 30th on the ‘Global Excl. U.S.’ chart and 46th on the ‘Global 200′, while the track “Bubble Gum” sits at 64th and 153rd on the respective charts. This achievement places all four of NewJeans’ latest tracks from Korea and Japan on the Billboard Global Song Chart.

Billboard recently included “How Sweet” in their list of ‘The 20 Best K-Pop Songs of 2024 (So Far): Critic’s Picks’. The publication praised the track, describing it as “refreshing and breezy like a summer wind,” and highlighted its “addictive nature, with harmonies that blend seamlessly.”

Following their Tokyo Dome fan meeting, NewJeans’ new songs have dominated major Japanese music charts. On Spotify Japan’s ‘Daily Top Songs’ chart dated July 8, “Supernatural” and “How Sweet” both climbed in rank, with 11 NewJeans songs appearing on the chart in total. On Apple Music Japan’s ‘Top 100’, “How Sweet” ranked 14th and “Supernatural” 16th, among a total of 9 songs from the group that made the list.

Despite being a Japanese single, “Supernatural” is also making a significant impact on domestic charts. It has held the number one position on Bugs’ daily chart for a week (July 2-8) and reached a peak of 5th on Melon’s ‘Top 100’. “How Sweet” similarly remains in the top ranks on Melon, Genie, and Bugs.

NewJeans will kick off their domestic music show promotions for their Japanese single “Supernatural” on July 12 with an appearance on KBS2’s ‘Music Bank’, followed by performances on MBC’s ‘Show! Music Core’ and other shows.
