Popular K-pop group Stray Kids has entered the Billboard ‘Hot 100′ chart for the second time, matching their highest chart position to date. According to Billboard’s social media update on the 20th (local time), Stray Kids’ digital single ‘Lose My Breath (Feat. Charlie Puth)’, released on May 10, debuted at No. 90 on the ‘Hot 100’ chart dated May 25.
Stray Kids has been on a meteoric rise, consistently achieving notable chart success. Their albums ‘ODDINARY’ and ‘MAXIDENT’ in 2022, followed by ‘5-STAR’ and ‘樂-STAR’ last year, all debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, marking four consecutive chart-topping releases.
The group’s title track ‘樂’ from ‘樂-STAR’ made history as the first song by a fourth-generation K-pop boy group to enter the ‘Hot 100’, also at No. 90. Stray Kids became the second K-pop boy group after BTS to break into this prestigious chart.
The ‘Hot 100’ is a key indicator of mainstream popularity in the U.S., encompassing physical single and digital sales, streaming numbers, radio airplay, and YouTube views. It is particularly challenging for K-pop boy groups, who often achieve success on the Billboard 200, to break into the ‘Hot 100′ due to its emphasis on radio airplay. Stray Kids’ repeated entry into this chart underscores their growing mainstream appeal in the U.S.
‘Lose My Breath’ captures the fleeting, unfamiliar emotions experienced when meeting someone for the first time. The collaboration with Charlie Puth features a harmonious blend of their vocals, creating a captivating sound.
The song was co-written, composed, and arranged by Stray Kids’ in-house production team 3RACHA (Bang Chan, Changbin, Han) in collaboration with Charlie Puth.
Stray Kids are also set to make their presence felt in international music festivals. They will headline major festivals including I-Days in Milan on July 12, BST Hyde Park in London on July 14, and Lollapalooza Chicago on August 2, highlighting their global influence. Additionally, a new album release is anticipated in July.
