5 million sellers… Album market boom

Compared to last year when BTS had one million seller, there were three million sellers only in October this year.

As of the end of October, according to the statistics of each agency, BTS’s 4th album ‘Map of the Sol: 7’was 4.26 million copies, Seventeen’s 7th mini album ‘Henggarae’ was 1.2 million copies, and EXO member Baekhyun’s second mini album ‘Delight’ recorded 10.2 million copies each. Blackpink’s 1st album, “THE ALBUM,” 1.2 million copies, NCT’s 2nd album, “NCT – The 2nd Album RESONANCE Pt.1”, 1.12 million copies. Gaon Chart by the Korea Music Contents Association, also estimated that the total album sales this year exceeded 30 million thanks to the explosive growth of K-pop singers.
On the 19th, the chief researcher of the Gaon chart Jin-woo Kim said, “In the situation where the activities of external fans such as concerts became impossible due to Corona 19, a kind of “retaliation consumption” phenomenon combined with the continuous expansion of global fandom must have been the reason for the record album sales”.
He then predicted that “Sales booms in the real album market will continue for a while as million sellers such as NCT, Seventeen, Blackpink expand to overseas fan bases in addition to BTS.”rn
