McDonald’s global sales increased 41% thanks to BTS

Global fast food chain McDonald’s reported an ‘earning surprise’ thanks to BTS. McDonald’s announced on the 28th that its worldwide store sales surged 40.5% from the same period last year through its second quarter earnings. Store sales in the U.S. also jumped 25.9% year-on-year and 14.9% year-on-year, respectively. McDonald’s net sales in the second quarter were $5.89 billion (about 6.8 trillion won), a 57% increase from the same period last year, exceeding the market estimate of $5.6 billion. Fans trying to get BTS set menus flocked to stores around the world at once, and in Indonesia, some stores were closed due to concerns about a mass infection of COVID-19. The BTS set includes McNuggets, French fries, and sauce. The lifting of restrictions on eating out due to COVID-19 is also believed to have played a role in improving McDonald’s performance.
