The K-pop group NewJeans has demonstrated their global appeal and dominance as a “global trendsetter” by achieving unparalleled success among K-pop artists in Apple Music’s 2023 Global Year-End Charts. Recently released data from Apple Music for the period from November 1, 2022, to October 31, 2023, shows that NewJeans (Minji, Hani, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein) have made a remarkable impact on the global music scene.
Their single ‘Ditto’ from the album ‘OMG’ reached 19th place in the ‘Top Songs of 2023: Global’ chart, marking the highest position ever achieved by a K-pop track on this chart. Furthermore, the title track ‘OMG’ and their debut song ‘Hype Boy’ also secured spots in the global chart, ranking at 37th and 64th respectively. This feat underscores NewJeans’ impressive standing in the international music industry, being the K-pop group with the most songs featured in Apple Music’s Global Year-End Chart.
In the ‘Top Songs of 2023: Korea’ category, NewJeans dominated the top three spots with ‘Ditto’, ‘OMG’, and ‘Hype Boy’, effectively sweeping the chart. Additionally, another debut track ‘Attention’ ranked 5th, and the title track ‘Super Shy’ from their mini-album ‘Get Up’ placed 7th, meaning half of the top 10 songs in Korea’s year-end chart were by NewJeans. This dominance not only in Korea but also in charts across various countries like China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia, indicates the widespread global popularity of NewJeans.
Moreover, NewJeans has also been recognized in the United States, featuring in several categories of Billboard’s ‘2023 Year-End Chart’, including the main ‘Billboard 200 Albums’ chart. This inclusion in various international charts highlights NewJeans’ growing influence and success in the global music industry, marking them as a significant force in K-pop.
