Before officially debuting in Japan, NewJeans has once again proven their strong popularity in the region by adding prestigious music award trophies to their achievements.
According to the winners’ list announced by the Japan Record Association on March 13th for the 38th Japan Gold Disc Award, NewJeans (Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, Hyein) were chosen as one of the “Best 3 New Artists” in the Asia category. Moreover, their hit song “OMG” won the “Song of the Year by Streaming” in the Asia category, making them double award winners.
The Japan Gold Disc Award, initiated in 1987 by the Japan Record Association, is a ceremony that honors artists and works contributing to the advancement of the record industry. Winners are selected based on the sales performance of albums, music videos, streaming playback, etc., over the course of a year.
NewJeans expressed their gratitude, saying, “We’re thankful that many people have shared various moments with ‘OMG’. We hope that NewJeans’ music will continue to be a part of your memories.” They also promised to work hard to deliver even better music.
With this achievement, NewJeans has now secured a total of five trophies from major Japanese music award ceremonies, including this Gold Disc Award. Last year, they received the “Excellence Award” and a “Special Award” at the Japan Record Awards, as well as the “Best Buzz Award” at the MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2023 (MTV VMAJ 2023).
