“Thanks to ARMY”… BTS wins 3 MTV VMAs in the US, ‘most wins’

BTS won the Group of the Year Award, Best K-Pop Award, and Song of Summer at the VMA held at the Barclays Center in New York on the 12th. With this, BTS became jointly awarded the most awards this year along with Olivia Rodrigo and Lil Nas X.
In this year’s group category, BTS won the trophy, beating out prominent competitors such as Maroon 5, Jonas Brothers, and Pooh Fighters. The Song of the Year category went to ‘Driver’s License’ by Olivia Rodrigo, an American ‘monster rookie’. With this, BTS succeeded in winning the VMA for three consecutive years. They were selected as winners of the Best K-Pop category for ‘Boys With Luv’ in 2019 and ‘On’ in 2020. In particular, last year, they proved their powerful firepower by receiving trophies in four categories: Best Choreography, Best Pop, Best K-Pop, and Group of the Year. This year, they had to be satisfied with three awards, but they still showed off their popularity by winning the Group of the Year category, which is still the main category of the awards ceremony, for two years in a row.
‘Butter’ broke the record for the most number one on the ‘Hot 100’ chart this year, and became the 40th single in Billboard’s 63-year history to occupy the top spot for more than 10 weeks.
