NewJeans to Perform as the First K-Pop Girl Group on ABC’s New Year’s Special in the US

NewJeans, a popular K-Pop girl group, is set to perform on the ABC network’s New Year’s Eve special show in the United States. Their agency, ADOR, announced on December 14 that NewJeans (Minji, Hani, Danielle, Haerin, Hyein) will appear on “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2024.” This event marks the 52nd annual broadcast of the program, widely recognized as the most-watched New Year’s special in the US. It traditionally starts on the evening of December 31 and continues into the early hours of New Year’s Day. The show, lasting over five hours, features performances by the year’s top artists and includes the iconic New Year countdown at New York’s Times Square.

This year’s global lineup, additionally revealed, includes NewJeans alongside artists like Post Malone and Ivy Queen. Post Malone will perform from Las Vegas, while Ivy Queen will take the stage in Puerto Rico. NewJeans, representing South Korea, is scheduled to perform their second EP’s title tracks “Super Shy” and “ETA.”

NewJeans’ appearance on the show is significant as they are the first K-Pop girl group to participate, making history in the genre. Previously, K-Pop artists such as Psy, BTS, J-Hope (from BTS), and Tomorrow X Together have appeared on the program. Notably, NewJeans has achieved this milestone within just 17 months of their debut, the shortest time for any K-Pop artist, regardless of gender. The “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve 2024” will be broadcast live on ABC at 8 PM local time on December 31 (10 AM KST on January 1).
