NewJeans Ranks 8th in the 2023 IFPI Global Artist Chart, Proving to Be a Global Phenomenon

The girl group NewJeans has uniquely made it into the top 10 of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI)’s “Global Artist Chart for 2023” as a K-pop female artist. According to the data released by IFPI on the 21st (local time), NewJeans (Minji, Hani, Danielle, Haerin, Hyein) secured the 8th position in the “Global Artist Chart 2023,” marking the highest ranking for a K-pop female artist and the second-highest among female artists, following Taylor Swift.

The IFPI Global Artist Chart annually ranks artists based on the combined figures of physical album sales, digital music downloads, and audio and video streaming worldwide. NewJeans’ entry into the top 10 on their first appearance on this chart demonstrates their remarkable performance last year.

NewJeans hit the domestic and international charts with every release, including their biggest hit “Ditto,” along with “OMG,” “Super Shy,” and “ETA.” They placed five songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and two songs on the UK Official Singles Chart Top 100 last year. On Spotify, the total streaming count for all NewJeans’ songs has reached over 3.7 billion.

Moreover, NewJeans showed their unique presence on the album charts as well. Their second EP “Get Up” made them the fastest K-pop group to reach number one on the Billboard 200 chart since their debut. This album was also recorded as the fifth most-sold physical album in the US, ranking second among female artists, right after Taylor Swift’s “1989” (Taylor’s Version).

Additionally, NewJeans has been chosen as the recipient of the “Group of the Year” award at the Billboard Women in Music Awards, which honors influential female artists and producers in the music industry. They are scheduled to perform at the award ceremony on March 6th (local time) in Los Angeles.
